Have you ever had a poor experience with a car mechanic? Financial Advisors are like car mechanics!
It can be frustrating when you need your car fixed and the mechanic diagnoses the wrong problem, takes longer than expected, or tries to upsell you on unnecessary services.
Financial Advisors and mechanics are motivated by the same things. I had an experience that taught me how Financial Advisors could do a better job:
One time my car wouldn’t start so I took it to a repair shop. The first shop I took it to got paid only for their work on the car. The more expensive and longer it took to complete the repairs, the more they made. The mechanic took a day to look the car over for free and told me I needed a new fuel pump, which would cost about $1000. My extremely wise wife suggested I get a second opinion. So, I took the car to a mechanic who charged a fee to diagnose the problem. I paid the $75 fee, and they looked it over, testing each part, each section, and each wire, and found it was a $15 relay that had gone out, not the fuel pump! They switched out the relay, and the car worked perfectly. Because I paid for the diagnostic, they were willing and able to take the time needed to find the real problem. The moral of the story is that if an advisor only gets paid if they sell you a managed portfolio or a financial product, all of their “diagnostics” or financial planning will recommend you buy their product or service.
What you are currently doing with your investments may be good enough with some tweaks or education on what to focus on AND cost less than any solution or service a Financial Advisor has. Pay for the diagnosis, and you’ll get an honest answer with the support to learn the details of what is in your best interest to do.
Schedule a time with me to discuss how it works!
